About Side Saddle Putting
Side Saddle putting allows you to line up your putt with binocular vision, the natural way you're used to seeing the world around you. So why not use it to enhance and improve your depth perception on the green. It is also easier to keep the putter on line using the vertical stroke motion. Looking at the hole with both eyes from address to finish allows you to judge distance better. The side saddle stroke is controlled by the right arm, so it feels more natural and allows you to swing the putter easily straight back, then straight through. You may ask if side saddle putting facing the hole not the ball legal? The answer I found is it is legal as long as you do not stand on, or behind the line. (Between your feet in other words). To the side is legal. THE SIDE SADDLE PUTTING STYLE WILL...Produce a more pendulum like swing. Allow you stroke the putter square to the target line. Reduce cutting across the ball causing side spin. Start the ball tracking down the line. Lower your chance of miss hits.
Tips for measuring proper Side Saddle putter shaft length:
Using a side saddle stance can differ greatly from player to player. Determining shaft size is similar to a long putter. Hold your left arm (right hand for left handed golfers) to the side of your body in a parallel position to the ground. Using a broomstick or something to approximate a long shaft can help you determine where your hand feels comfortable. Once the position of the top of the putter has been determined then assume a comfortable address position and then have another person measure the distance from the top of the top hand (left hand for right handed golfers) to the floor. Or mark the broom where you hand is comfortable and take your measurement. Typically side saddle putters will be in the 40" range. But like I've said there's nothing typical about them!
Important tips about Side Saddle putters:
You may notice some similarities between a Side Saddle putter and Long putters. The standard length 43" Side Saddle putter shares the same 11(79)* putter lie as the standard Long putter. The placement of the main grip is lower on the shaft then a Long putter to accommodate the right arm being straighter for the Side Saddle stance. A common misconception is a Side Saddle putter is more upright than a Long putter, but they are not. It is the Side Saddle stance that makes it appear that way. The USGA rules state under Appendix II 1. Clubs, that the minimum legal putter lie is 10(80)*. And that the putter cannot be held at address at less than that same lie. So using 11(79)* as our most upright lie stays within the rules and gives you a 1* forgiveness in your stance at ball address. You can CLICK HERE to go to the USGA Club Rules website. The shorter the shaft lengths the more bent over you'll be in your stance, and the longer the shaft length the more upright.

For credit card ordering use the drop down menus to choose your shaft length and RH or LH then click the "Add to Cart" Button to be taken to the PAYPAL website to complete your order.. For money order/cashiers check go to our Mail Order page and use the Print Out Order Form. All of our putter shaft lengths are measured from the butt end to the top of the putter head for superior accuracy. The head thickness adds approximately 1" to the overall length. There is no extra charge for custom shaft sizes. Typically Side Saddle putters tend to be in the 40" range. But you will notice from the drop down menu that they are offered from 46" down to 36". This is one of the most wide ranging personal shaft length choice putters I have come across. Tips for measuring your proper shaft length at home are below.
